Dear Leopards,
Sarah Moschenross, Vice President for Student Life
Welcome to new and returning Lafayette students!
We, in the Division of Student Life, are eager to engage with you, to attend your events, support your clubs and organizations, champion your work on campus, and celebrate you as you learn and grow this year.
While the semester is underway, take some time for yourself, put your feet in the grass, and remember to breathe. You’ve got this. And we’ll help!
Student Life Staff
First, let me introduce you to some new faces on the team!
New Student Orientation
Move-in weekend and new student orientation was a smashing success! Thank you to Vanessa Pearson and Melissa Dalrymple for their leadership and vision! Special thanks to our campus partners in facilities, dining, athletics, academic affairs, inclusion, and especially to our LEOs, Head Residents, and RAs.
- First-year students: Don’t forget the required online modules from the Dean of Students office due Sept. 20. Search your email for “Required Online Modules” sent from the Dean of Students for more details!
Student Handbook Updates
All students are responsible for understanding and adhering to student conduct policies. I draw your attention to the following changes:
- Student Conduct System Updates
- The student behavioral conduct process will no longer assess fines as an outcome. Fines disproportionately fall on low-income students and as a division that values equity and justice, this practice will be discontinued. Fees associated with restitution (i.e. fire safety tampering, vandalism or damage repairs, etc.) are the only monetary aspect of the student conduct system moving forward.
- The conduct process will now offer students a formal process to engage in restorative practices, one that has roots in indigenous practices that prioritize dialogue, healing, accountability, and education. These skills invest in you, your growth and education, and your ability to facilitate healing in yourself and others.
- If you are interested in getting involved on the student conduct board or with restorative practices, please reach out to Austin Haytko, Director of Student Conduct and Restorative Practices.
Feather House Forum
Want to talk? Students are invited to open conversation with VP Moschenross weekly on Thursdays from 4-5 p.m. in Feather House 203. Stop by for coffee, tea, and connection!
